I purchased this as a quick lock down project for my 14yr old son. It was straight forward to make, the instructions were clear, and the paint (humbro) was a reasonable price too. If you use the Airfix website to search for the model you can find out which paint you need, and then add it to your basket at the point of purchase (and don’t forget some glue too).

This is a 2020 tooling and the a complete retool as well I believe. With the exception of some slightly simplified detail the mould is crisp as you would expect and no filler was required.

  3. Jack Smith

First model kit I’ve got for years, easy to assemble while still be engaging. Only problem was mine had a piece (C7, circled in photo) missing somehow. Means it’s visibly unfinished but I can’t say I’m too bothered.

I have not assembled this kit yet, so in all fairness can not comment

  5. Albert Chen

I build primarily “Sherman and related armor fighting vehicles in small scale” . At first, I was very excited to see Airfix released it’s second Sherman tank after all these years. However, the kit is somewhat not up to today’s standard, which is, in my opinion, is set by Heller and Dragon. First, the positives: The tracks are in hard plastic, which mean they can be glued easily. The way they were designed are not as painful to assemble as the usual length and link style tracks. A British style antenna base is included, a detail that I have not seen before in this scale. The dimensions and shape are overall accurate and parts assemble with good fit.
The negatives: The three pieces transmission/differential housing lack detail (bolts). It is similar to the old Airfix Sherman from the 1960s!!! The cover art and the instruction both erroneously have the bow machine gun instead of a covering plate (fortunately, it is included). All hatches are molded closed. Most of the tools are molded on with soft detail. The shovel has an odd shape. The rear fender have part of the sand shield still attached, which I think should be removed. Front lights are missing their guards and the rear lights and guards are completely missing. The machine gun for the commander is missing. Although I am quite disappointed with this kit, I still bought four, because Sherman V (M4A4) is the most common British Sherman and potential for building different variants, not just Firefly, is endless.

A good value model of one of the less well known Sherman tanks used by the British at the end of WW2. Airfix have produced an excellent kit for the money. Nice refined detail with well fitting parts and fine moulding. There are two options in the box – a simplified, quick(er) build version with already built wheels and tracks for the novice builder or war gamer in a hurry and a full track version. Parts go together well with no gaps and a clever design that ensures they only fit in one direction – the right one! You could probably build this in a couple of hours or really take your time over the painting and turn it in to a little masterpiece. Well recommended for modellers of all skill levels.
