I built two of these in the height of the pandemic. The first one was a bit better with the flash, but still had a decent amount and it was pretty thick. Not an easy peel job, and I kind of mangled the edges trying to remove it. It’s molded out of not a great plastic, and the details aren’t as stark as other model kits. It’s only a few pieces (I think like 9 total) and seems like it’s more for kids. Painting the details was a pain in the butt, and the million decals that are included are detailed, but make the entire ship blue. That is not how it looked in the show or the movie.

It looks OK from a distance, but up close unless you are a professional modeler and painter, good look making it look halfway decent.

Arrived broken and none of the parts would fit properly. I disposed of it! Accuracy and looks were amazing though!

Had no assembly problems, decals were great. Very happy overall. I suggest glue even though the instructions say it is a snap kit.

Pure Rubbish – took 5 mins max to build like something out of £1 shop. So disappointed- bought this for my son’s birthday and couldn’t believe when it was opened what I got for nearly £40. Feel totally robbed.

Fun for the novice and challenging with all the decals, Seems pricey for 9 parts and some decals.

The ship was easy to build and definitely looks like the enterprise from the next gen show. I had problems when I began to paint and put decals on it. There were two colors they recommended for the base color. I chose the gray color hoping it would match the colors in the show. But when I put the decals on they were extremely blue and made it look awful. I eventually had to get an iridescent paint and mix it with gray to dull the blue. It still does not look great but I does look a lot better

Easy to put together. Very nice for my collection.

I have no idea what the, warmth, means on the review, but this is the second Enterprise-D I have bought in this scale.

The first time was box stock, and easily assembled.

Used my favorite Micro-Set and Micro-Sol to set the decals, which were easy to align and fit fairly accurately to the mold.

This kit is going to be modified to be the three nacelle Enterprise-D from the episode, “All Good Things,” using Federation Models’ resin pieces.

Just looking at this kit, the decals are the same as before and unlike the box set, this kit is molded in a more correct gray, where the box set was molded in a light blue.

Just another way to highlight the difference in the two configurations, in my opinion.

I did get this model for assembly and thought it would be a nice long fun project. However it was nine large parts and there was almost no challenge to the model. I had it done in ten minutes. and it was rather small compared to other ship models I have. It is nice to round off ones collection. It also comes with the water decals and instructions. I am glad the model is at least there. I am glad I have it though.

So this kit has gotten a lot of stick on the reviews here.

I get it, it can be a bit of a pain to put together but the best tool you need to start with is patience.

Don’t go hacking off the plastic pegs at first especially the ones around the saucer section you’ll more than likely end up with a chunk out of the edge, reduce it gradually.

It says on the box it’s a snap fit kit. It is but I’d recommend using some glue anyway.

You do get slight gaps it’s a little unavoidable as with most kits you can get a model filler for this, being new and niave I used humbrol model filler it’s too “chunky” for fine gaps so in future I’m going to use Vajalo plastic putty. Easy to apply with a fine applicator and files smooth with a soft ememery board, should leave the gaps more filled.

The decals, wow, so many, very fiddly please research a decal fixative to make life easier and to get adhesion, don’t beat yourself up if muck them up a bit. Some of them don’t fit flush especially on the top of the saucer section.

In all a pleasure to build despite a few niggles and kinks.

Looks great when done and if you apply a bit of time and investment. There are some great build videos on you tube which will help greatly.

Take your time and have fun !!

Unlike the newer Polar Lights Star Trek kits, this is a re-issue of an older kit from several years ago. While the new Polar Lights kits are usually very well molded and can snap together with almost no glue, this kit uses the same molds from the original run. This is most noticeable on the two saucer halves, which have large bits of plastic waste that need to be carefully removed. If you take the time to trim flash with a knife, use modeling putty to fill gaps, and use extra fine sandpaper to smooth edges, this kit goes together very nicely and relatively quickly. For the scale and price, the ship is nicely detailed, with raised panel lines. The included decals provide an aztecing pattern for the entire hull, and conform nicely to the curves of the kit. For best results, either use a gloss paint of a gloss clear coat before applying decals, and use a decal set solution. Decal placement and painting guides are printed right on the box, similar to other new Polar Lights kits, which saves paper. Despite how it is marketed on the box, this is really not a beginner kit; you need to put in a little bit of extra effort to get excellent results, but most people with some experience building plastic models will not find it challenging.
