Dont worry about this being too complicated for a beginner. I was, and now am the proud owner of a beautiful model boat. A couple starters, after the balsa bottom is installed the plans say to apply the mohogany strips without wetting. No way it can be done without breaking the wood. Have a small spray bottle handy, start the glueing the strips at the rear end, let it dry, then spray the outside of the strip lightly. Bend it slowly toward the front and glue as you go. Start with the top strip first and work down to the keel. Loctite makes a great instant glue, just keep your fingers out of its way. You are going to have to make your own windshield brackets. Your hobby store will have a selection of very small brass square rods, they work great. Also find a better prop, the tiny one included looks terrible. My kit had enough extra mahogany strips left over to completely cover the floor of the display stand. Use the small pieces to give it a real effect. Sand and stain, it comes out terrific. (Oh yeah, cover the seats with pieces of thin leather, much better than paint.)

The boat is great. It is for more advanced modelers. Planking is a challenge and you need to fabricate a few parts. Overall, its a great kit and the finished product is wonderful. Just go slow and practice patience.

I have it on display in my office ….

  4. Dennis Boerre

the cost-too much. the instructions-too vague. the size-too small for the money. lots of guesswork involved. poor value

First, I authorised the charge in my credit card of the price of that model, and someone in Amazon decides charge without any authority neither authorisation for USD 39 for shipping, when the ad said very clearly: free shipping. Well, I am now the owner of the most expensive model of Chris Craft triple cockpit Barrelback in the world.
And I’m not very happy, because this model is not that they say. It’s a very very coarse, rough model, composed by very few weak wooden slats, smaller than appear and all pieces announced in metall, are plástics.
Definitelly no, I am not happy with my last aqquisition

I thought the product was larger than the one shipped. I do not recall seeing the size spelled out when I purchased the item. In the past I have built some wooden boats from Dumas and they have always been an excellent product. I have consequently returned this product but strictly due to size (too small) no other reason.
