Bought this for my husband’s 56th birthday. He said he had several when he was a kid so I thought it would be a nice surprise. It’s basically a paper towel tube. It is soooo cheap! The really bad part is the parachute would never open. He tried it four times. Atleast with it being a cardboard tube, it didn’t break when the parachutes didn’t open! Such a disappointment for him and the little boys next door that came to watch.

This is a bit pricey for what it is, even for an Estes rocket, this is still only 1/200. Hoping for a price drop . New Fan of the “Big Orange Rocket” since the blast-off. The Estes version is ready to fly out of the box with a little prep. The RTF is really nicely detailed with various markings, an ARTIMIS/Orion upper stage with LAS and various surface details to include 4 Shuttle main engines for detail. The multiple conduits make a nice surface texture and the alignment with the upper stage/tank top is great. Add the motor , fins and recovery wadding and you will be ready (if you have a Estes launch pad and controller), and will make more flights than the real thing before retirement to the rocket park. The only major complaint is the motor hook hangs below the rocket which makes it impossible to display upright without the fins. Not easy to display vertical unfortunately. It’s a gamble if the NASA gang will actually make it back for another landing anytime soon.
