This is one of Hasegawa’s older kits, which stands up well outside of these four drawbacks
    1) Panel lines are raised vs Recessed. Pre and Post shading is necessary to make this kit shine
    2) Included Mk 82 and GBU weapons are…. Not detailed enough IMHO. Use the Hasegawa Smart Bomb kit to deck this puppy out
    3) Engine blade and cowl are molded in one piece – making the painting of that part…. Not very easy
    4) Lack of details on Wheel Wells – but that is common with 1/72 kits

Most builders can easily get around those things. Fit and Finish is classic Hasegawa, easy to assemble with minimal need to fill and seams. Decals are gorgeous, and painting it is fairly straightforward. Assembly and painting shouldn’t be more than 2-3 days. If you deck this out with the smart bombs and take your time with the Mavericks, this is one gorgeous kit to add to your collection.

The kit is great, all I’ve come to expect from Hasegawa. It arrived well within the time frame anticipated. My one reservation is that somewhere along the route between Tokyo and Buffalo, somebody stepped on the box. There is a very large and articulate boot mark on the outside packaging and the lower right corner of the box was mashed in. Fortunately, it didn’t damage the plastic parts inside. But the box sure looks roughed up. I know there’s no remedy for this, as no one gets reprimanded for inattentiveness or shoddy work practices these days. But it is unfortunate.

This unit came with missing parts and because i didnt check the return date i am left with an incomplete plane to build, Check before return date make sure you are getting everything it calls for

Overall it’s a good quality model. That said it took a lot of clean up to get it assembled. There was a lot of flashing on every sprue. Nearly every piece had to be trimmed down and sanded. There were a lot of injector pin marks visible too although none on any painted surfaces. It looks like this comes from a very old and worn mold. That said it’s still nicely detailed and the overall fit and finish is decent. I guess I was expecting something a little crisper straight out of the box. I built mine with gear retracted and mounted on a stand. There’s no easy option to model it with gear up. More trimming of parts and fiddling is needed but it’s possible.

Easy to build and fun to build

  6. Andres Ulloa Jr.

Had loads of fun putting it together

This is a great model and the first my son ever built. At first he felt a little overwhelmed. We went thru the parts with him and how to work the sections. Once he understood how this works he went to work on it and glued all the pieces together. It came out GREAT! He is so in love with it that he can’t wait for another birthday or Xmas to get a different model to build.

While the end result was a welcome addition to my collection, assembly was troublesome. Many parts (especially the cockpit/nose wheel well group) required quite a bit of trimming and sanding to fit, if one followed the instructions. And since I don’t like empty pylons, the ordinance items didn’t lead to a balanced load, so some tweaking was required. Probably some purist will complain that weapon A isn’t supposed to be on pylon C, but I don’t go for authenticity, just a model that looks decent.
