Love how my plane turned out

Tamiya’s recently retooled Zero variants are arguably the best in 1/48 scale. You won’t find better fit, detail, and overall quality right out of the box. Even includes canopy masks (you cut ’em though) and polythene caps (for propeller and drop tank attachment). With the exchange rate favoring the US dollar right now, it’s the perfect time to load up on some exceptional Japanese kits for the stash. The shipping time is a bit long — it’s coming on a boat from Japan — and they don’t package items the way we’re accustomed to (no air bags or peanuts, sometimes just wrapped in paper with cardboard wrapped around that). But, sometimes you get a nice little scented cherry blossom card or hand-written Japanese note inside as a bonus. Overall it deserves 5+ stars, highly recommended!

I enjoyed the accuracy of the model. Pieces came together well. The pilot and interior of plane
looks good, but take photographs of this area before finishing the model

My Tamiya A6M3 Zero type 22/22a arrived today. It has been available for years, and having a good Zero collection already, I was dubious about getting “yet another Zero model”. Was I wrong!
The kit is ingenious! The Type 22 is my favorite Zero variant. Tamiya went well beyond expectations to make it 100% right. Tiny details, like the tail gear access door and cockpit instruments were all correct. The amount in the box really floored me! Tamiya has been known for their perfect engineering and omission of frills like etched parts options and figures for decades. On some kits, you’d think there PE parts were etched from gold, given the high box price for Tamiya releases including them.
This time, a great little etch set is included to enhance the folded wingtip option (another great feature found only in Tamiya’s new Zero models). A set of four standing aircrew/ pilot figures are in the box, as is a seated pilot.
This experience has shown a new side of Tamiya. Engineering is still flawless, but their aversion to adding extra details and figures is gone! The modeler gets a lot for their money (including 3 options and canopy masks which I forgot to mention).
Once this build is done, I’m definitely going back for another version! Extremely satisfied!

Espero me devuelvan mi dinero. Nunca volvere a comprar esto..

I have not built a plastic aircraft kit in many years, but Tamiya have always been top notch . The modern kits have more detail than they used to have and that is good. This is the most detailed kit I have ever owned and I’m looking forward to building it.

In my opinion, this is THE A6M3 in 1/48 scale: fantastic detail, great parts fit. Tamiya’s A6M5 is equally as good. Pilot figures are beautifully sculpted, and a bonus.

I enjoyed this kit.. my first Tamiya kit. The assembly went like a dream, painting the kit was a dream.. the only reason this kit is not a 5 star kit is that the decals are TERRIBLE.
Mine were printed in 1982 and time was not kind to them… 2 of them absolutely shredded themselves once touched after being moistened. Thankfully, both ruined decals are on the “far” side of the photos so you cannot tell.
