  1. R. Jo

    Very small pieces

The model itself is mediocre, the instructions are shamefully bad. I will probably refrain from purchasing this brand in the future .

Nice kit. Hangar deck has a bit of a fit issue and needs seam filling to the hull. Ordered the White Ensign PE kit for Radar masts and railing. Many tiny parts, so not suited for beginners IMO.

I worked in the yard that built these ships. I was a main machinery engineer. I wanted a model of the ships I helped build. The detail in this one is perfect

A very challenging model to build. Many very small pieces, hard to separate from parts trees. Parts did not always fit together well, unusual for a Tamiya model in my experience. Directions are clear. Model looks very good when completed-I was pleased with how the model turned out, given the challenge it was to build. Model is approx. 15 1/2″Lx6 1/2″Tx1 1/2″W. I recommend this model highly, but the builder will need to be patient and have a lot of experience building plastic models-this is not a model for a beginner…

This is a excellent model. Lots of features that are realistic.

This is a great kit with decent level of details. There were no major issues with this kit as far as parts fitting and mold flash. I did not need to use any putty with this kit. You can build it as is right out of the box for a quick weekend build, or purchase after market detail kits to really elevate the details of the ship if you are comfortable with resin and photo etch kits.

There are many long small decals, so decal setter and softer solutions are highly recommended.

I was on the Taylor, FFG 50, and wanted a cool memory. It’s going to be fun to recall my time onboard and test my old skills of model building. There are many tiny parts connected, railings mostly, that look like they’re going to be hard to remove cleanly. Glad I have a set of exacto knives. We were haze grey and underway most of the 2 years I was aboard, Arabian (Persian) Gulf, Med, Gulf of Mexico, Suez and Red Sea… The grey color of the model isn’t quite right. I’m not sure what I’m going to do about that. Haze grey is the Navy way, so maybe I can live with the color without having to paint the whole model.
