Description
- COOL DESIGN – Inspired by the famous Union Pacific Big Boy, this ‘steampunk’ locomotive model resembles that historical steam liner covered in a sleek aerodynamic body.
- FULLY MECHANIZED – Once assembled, the train moves rapidly on the rails powered by its mechanical spring. From the top and side, you can observe the movements of gear-wheel and flywheel inside the train.
- STURDIER THAN THE COMPETITION – Featuring safe smooth edges, these high-quality stainless-steel model kits are designed for the experienced hobbyist. The complexity of the design requires patience and focus over several hours but the effort and time will be well worth the investment. These kits aren’t cheaply made like some of the competition out there, these steel models are built to last.
- NO SOLDERING REQUIRED – Each machine can be assembled by using only a pair of tiny pliers – no soldering or specialty tools are required. Parts easily separate from each sheet plate by hand and can be assembled with minimal effort. The gears of these precision mechanisms are made of thicker, durable metal.
- SPECS – The wheelbase of the locomotive is 4-12-6. Model scale is 1:64. The width of rail is 0.944882 inches, rail is approximately 60″ in length (a straight length of track for demonstration, does not form a circle). Coal tender can be unhooked from the locomotive. 242 parts. Package size: 11.38” x 5.47” x 1.22”. Model size: 19.53” x 2.36” x 2.60”. For ages 14+.

Good luck getting it to run. Smooth Metal axles would have been great. A jig for bending the parts is a must in order to get 90 degree angles.

Ideally it would be nice if it came with some oil to lubricant for the spring chamber. I ended up using maching gun oil and it works with ease. It was a fantastic experience. Good learning experience. There was one defective-missing a punch on the skin (seen on 2nd picture) this was on top part of the model. While it shows as a error from the stamping/cutting process it was still a great experience. This is my second review I have ever posted in the last 15 years. Well done will be buying some more.

This is a lovely model and could be such a wonderful project. While the overall design of this model is absolutely beautiful, the detailed engineering is badly flawed. It is virtually impossible to assemble the model so that it actually operates as designed. I would give it ZERO stars if I could. As I detailed in a series of emails to the manufacturer (TimeforMachine) and as mentioned by another reviewer, the gears and, most importantly, the axles for those gears, are constructed of flat stainless sheet metal, and there is absolutely no way that they will stay aligned or turn properly. Consequently, the gear drivetrain is useless and will not operate no matter what is done.
The model model was purchased on February 1, 2021, from Amazon under Order #113-82312482-3649009 by my Wife as a surprise gift, but I did not open it in time to meet the Amazon 30-day return window. Accordingly, I requested an exception from Amazon, which was refused for understandable reasons, and additionally requested a refund from TimeforMachine. TimeforMachine was initially sympathetic, asked for pictures (which I provided), and after a series of emails over three months, determined that no refund would be issued because “it was purchased from someone else”. For a rather expensive model ($169.55 USD), this treatment constitutes a complete failure of TimeforMachine to provide a customer-friendly interface and to support the product that they market. There is also an issue of false advertising related to the operation of the model. I have attached 3 photo’s showing the geartrain problem.
I strongly recommend that no one purchase this model or any other model marketed by TimeforMachine. Additionally, it is my belief and request to Amazon that they disqualify TimeforMachine from the Amazon vendor list, based on TimeforMachine’s incredibly poor customer interface and support.
