  1. Abdul Alhazred

It’s a nice little model boat but the instructions are very lacking if you buy this assembly will be challenging if you like that it will be worth the money.

  2. Larry

As stated, the instructions are basically useless. It doesn’t tell you what to do or how, there’s just a few badly printed pictures, and its taken many hours just to build the bottom of the ship, and i set the build aside over a year ago because i didn’t have the time to cut and measure each mast as they APPEAR to be in the blurry images.

I don’t think its worth buying. I bought this boat, and 1 other, and they both have the same exact problems. Now i just have these 2 unfinished, sad little boats, sitting in my storage room because the manufacturer couldn’t be bothered to prepare the instructions properly, cut the masts or sails to size, or put in the bare minimum I would expect from even the smallest manufacturer.

Do not buy. You’ll be disappointed.

  3. Lincoln Hach Yellick

I’m always puzzled by people who buy things in a clearly specified tiny scale and then complain that the parts are too small to handle. Yes, the instructions are very general and there are a few mislabeled parts – see BoilerDan’s excellent videos for help. This is my first wooden sailing ship model, tho I’ve built a few plastic ones in the past. Should make a good addition to my N-scale train layout.

  4. Moriah

This is a cheap model and it shows in the directions, but the price point is almost perfect for learning. The directions are hard to follow for a few parts, but it makes up for being VERY clear on the important parts. That being said I lowered the score more because the directions do not match the shape of some pieces.

I will close with the fact that this was a good introduction to wooden ship building at a low price point. I felt very comfortable with making mistakes and bought another to apply what I learned. If the quality stays consistent I will edit this for a better score. In my mind a cheap and consistent model for learning makes this model a no brainer. That is if the second buy is the same or better. I will be the judge of that and if I am pleased id say buy two so you run though the first and apply what your learned to the second.

Side note: Pictures above are how far I got before realizing how dumb I was doing things. The hull on the left side was me not knowing how to work with the planks and the forward facing picture is me learning. I don’t know ship lingo so forgive me. 🙂 I would also recommend doing the hull planks and hull side panel with the square holes before gluing the top ship pieces.

  5. Michelle

Very good kit. However, parts are very easilly damaged, and a few were broken on arrival. Be prepared to improvise.

  6. Billy

This is actually a good buy. While it’s not for beginners, it is laser cut very well and makes a beautiful model when complete. Instructions are not very good but will get the job done.

  7. Lincoln Hach Yellick

Plans were in asian language. Not sure which. No translation. No pattern for sails to be cut out. Had to wing it. Overall decent. Not really for a beginner but with little understanding of woodworking be able to do it. Need an exacto knife and some 120 sand paper for sure. Didnt come out like pictures but I redesigned sail layout.

  8. Moriah

    Be patient. Don’t rush.
I saw the reviews about the instructions. I would agree that the instructions are sparing, but it’s not a big deal. The pictures are helpful when assembling.

    Pros:
    1. Cheap introductory product for learning
    2. High quality wood print. Very few laser burns on the product.
    3. Fun to assemble (kept me busy for several months – but I’m going slow)

    Cons:
    1. Low quality cannons that come with the product (I majorly dislike the square cannons – I plan to 3d print my cannons for better results)
    2. Low quality string that comes with the product – I recommend buying separate twine
    3. Low quality cloth for the sails
    4. The deck for the boat is one solid sheet of wood. There isn’t much depth to the deck. I would have liked to lay the individual planks, and will look for a product with individual planks in the future.

    Tips:
    1. If you are using super glue make sure you are in a WELL ventilated area!
    2. Go slow.
    3. Sanding does miracles.
