Great model to build a real challenge but when completed it is one bad looking boat

This isa nice kit. I’ve just started mine, but I’m impressed. One thing to realize is that you will have to putty and sand the covers on the assembly screws on the hull sides. The painting guide in the box is worthless, the color scheme is the plainest possible. I’m doing one of the tri-color schemes used in the Baltic. It’s going to be challenging, but eye catching.

This is one of the most challenging and rewarding kits you will be building! At a length of 1 m with over 800 parts, this is not for the beginner or the faint hearted! My build has nearly 900 parts including many custom parts and detail set and took 5 months to complete.
The large 1:35 scale allows for a lot of details to show. In this respect there is no comparison between this and the 1:72 Revell although that is also a good kit and more manageable in terms of size.
Many sub components are composed of separate parts and this adds to the realism of the model.
Now everything is not rosy with this kit. This is not an inexpensive kit, especially when you add in the cost of paints, consumables and a display case. But to be fair, considering the size and parts count, it is to be expected. There are a few errors in the instructions, and the color sequence. A lot of research was required to build an accurate model which was challenging as there was a real dearth of information on the S boots and it’s difficult to discern details from BW photos. I highly recommend the Eduards PE detail set to augment the build and add accuracy. Many parts had were well moulded, although many (especially the wheelhouse) had sink marks and slight sea lines which needed to be sanded and prepared before painting. Many steps are mundane but rewarding at the end.
Overall, a highly recommended kit if you have enough experience under your belt in building scale models and you want to challenge yourself or if you are interested in these beautiful patrol boats.
