My husband has been building models since his childhood. His favorite kits were the Universal Monsters (Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolfman, Phantom of the Opera, etc.) originally issued by Aurora in the 1960s and 1970s. Over the past 20 – 25 years, Polar Lights has re-issued many of the old Aurora models and my husband is collecting them all. These are just as detailed as the originals and offer the same challenges and rewards for the dedicated model-builder.
This is part of their new Jolly Roger series – models that each depict a pirate skeleton up to some skullduggery. Because this particular model has a lot of disparate elements – the rough sand, glittering jewels, tattered fabric, shiny metal, weathered leather, colorful feathers and, of course, dry bones – it should present an enjoyable challenge for my husband. His favorite part of model building is trying to recreate various textures with paint. I’ll bet he plans to display it next to the Blackbeard he completed last year.
If you prefer figure models to cars/boats/airplanes, this unusual one offers some fun challenges.

Looks just like the one I purchased as a youth with the Disney branding (sans box of course).

What to do with the kids during this extended Covid 19 sheltering in place? Scale model kits! My grandson is used to easily putting Legos together and is just beginning to get into scale model kits. He is finding them a bit challenging and that is a good thing as Legos come easy to him. It took little over a day to complete it and he was so happy with what he built. Nice detail and it looks great!

Lindberg always makes interesting theme models. This pirate one looked interesting. Not much flashing and some minor fit issues but in the end everything aligned like it was supposed to. Some filler and sanding but no more than other models.
I installed a yellow flickering LED in the lantern. There is plenty of room under the raised sand beach for a AA battery for light effects. The arms move on both characters by a plastic molded in mechanism but mine didn’t work so well. I wasn’t too concerned as I didn’t plan on playing with. One fellow on YouTube got his to work fine. Fun piece to assemble and paint up. I used mostly acrylic craft paints.

Arrived quickly in great condition. A lot so fun to build, required a lot of painting that added to the fun. A must have for any model enthusiast
