This was a lot of fun to build. I chose to add a .50 cal machine gun to the turret for fun.
I pulled it off an extra that I had from building a Huey Combat Chopper (Vietnam era).
I like the camouflage pattern as it was fun to paint. The figures were also very detailed.

  2. Andrew Bunting

This lumbering old hunk of metal virtually indestructible to the tanks of the Africa corps.
Nicely finished with three man crew

    Great details 👌

Revell is probably more famous than Tamiya for some reason, but my son has discovered that his Tamiya models tend to be better-made, sturdier and more accurate than many of the current Revell ones. This one certainly is. It offers you several paint scheme options so you can customize it for a particular year of use or region. He chose Africa and painted it primarily in yellows and browns. Looks great when done.

A fantastic model from Tamiya. Easily built with no fit issues. The plastic is well moulded and this does not take much work to make a good model. You get a choice of main armament too represent different versions, but more importantly, you get the choice between rubber band tracks (for those who want an easy life) and link and length styrene tracks (for masochistic detail freaks). The crew figures are well sculpted and add value.

The only downside I encountered was that for some reason, the decal sheet made for very thin, fragile decals that fell to bits if I even looked at them too hard. I have done several Tamiya models and never encountered this issue before, do I put this down to an individual manufacturing quality issue rather than a trend with the product.

Overall, ignoring the decal issue, the product is worthy of five shiny stars.

Wonderful model kit of this iconic tank. Beautifully engineered and beautifully moulded too. Thank you Tamiya. Buy with confidence you will not be disappointed. The three crewmen are excellent as too is the choice for modelling the tracks either rubber band type or links and lengths, fabulous!

I love the Matilda, it was such a joy to build and I even got to use in for my first diorama which turned out amazing! Now the stripped decal on turret works well but the one over the front sprocket needs decal setting solution to fit around the bolts properly

I’ve always liked the look of the Matilda and always wanted to make one. I’ve been making model kits since I was a kid but this is definitely my favourite yet.

This kit is such good fun to make, there’s no annoying parts that are complicated for the sake of it yet there’s plenty of detail which will keep you busy for many hours.

I don’t have an air brush, all paint was done with brushes and masking tape to create the straight edges. I would recommend assembling the main hull and turret then painting it before you put any extras on as you won’t be able to get masking tape around when you do that. Just some simple smudges with my finger from a weathering kit is the only added detail and I’m really happy with how it looks.

One thing though, be very careful with the rubber tracks. Glue will melt them really easily and I ended up having to use a lighter to melt them back in to place so they would hold together. Next time I would suggest using needle and thread.

Son asked for this for his birthday and it’s the second one from this series ,so that speaks for itself that he wanted another one to do

The tri color paint scheme was very difficult to attempt. I wasn’t happy with the result.

But…I have build a lot of tanks over the years…mostly Tamiya. But this….is freaking perfect..awesome molding. Everything so far has fit nice and crisp and tight.
Not an overly popular tank…but the thing has great detail. I’m not sure what I am going to about painting it. It gives the patterns in the back. That goofy stripe one…and 3 others camo. Ones that where sent to North Africa were painted desert yellow.
I just don’t want to loose some of the nice detail to a dark paint with a dark wash. Mmmmmm What to do…what to do…

Anyway….thumbs up kit….I am 55 and have been building these things obsessively for 25 years. I need help..!

    Later…
    Don’t glue your fingers together…

I wanted a Matilda for my collection and knew this Tamiya kit would be a joy to build. It was indeed!!
The detail is fabulous and the whole kit was fun to put together. I love the figures and built them out of the box. I have mine built and just need to paint and weather it. I’m sorry that so much of the suspension is covered by the side plates, the detail there is superb also.
I’ve built models all my life (now 51), but the Tamiya armor models of recent vintage are the most fun to build. I really don’t desire to build anything else!
