First of all, I Expected a first class model, considering the price. I was dissatisfied.
This aircraft was made famous in the battle of Taranto, by disabling the Italian fleet with torpedoes.
This kit does have a torpedo, but no instructions pertaining to the torpedo or its mounting.
I also would have expected that the kit would be complete! (The guy wires are sold separately).
(I used black thread.)
There were too many parts that were so thin that trimming off the waste plastic usually broke said piece.
And of course, there were no hints as to whether to paint b4 assembly or after.
Combine this with the necessity of breaking the assembled wing section in order to fit the wings to the fuselage, I doubt I will be buying Tamiya models in the future.

I’ve been building for years and this kit is a great example of quality kits by Tamiya. Fit and finish was as expected…perfect. You do, however, need to be pretty experienced to tackle this one especially with the wiring in the wings but otherwise, it’s a great build and the resulting finished model is a center piece for any collection. Highly recommended.

Quality kit, but instructions confusing, for folding wings, and none folding wing, , using the bracing wire set,. My advice is read over and over again the instructions, don’t start the build until very clear understanding of the build. Some of the signs in the instruction don’t have an explanation of what they mean. Don’t follow the expert builders on Utube , like I did, a mistake. Best of luck with the kit. Mike M

Although a nice model, it would have been better at 1:32 scale rather than 1:48.
Not sure that all the rockets and crew are really necessary.
The accessory kit of wing wires are too flimsy and difficult to fit.
On a larger version I used fine steel rods. Much easier and more realistic.

Building the Fairey Swordfish took time, patience, attention to detail and careful dry-fitting of parts with multiple connection points, but the result was an all-time favorite model airplane that I can’t imagine ever being beat. Ordering the aftermarket kit was a worthy additional expense to create the bi-plane rigging. This was a challenging build, but the finished kit is colorful, detailed, and fascinating to look at—what more could you ask for? I recently took it off my display shelf to hang as if in flight and it looks even better!
