Finally finished the Iowa. I purchased the Pontos detail up kit also. The model came out awesome in my opinion. I figure I have around a thousand hours most of which was due to the Pontos photo etch. A lighted magnifier is a must. If you are looking for a challenging project then the Iowa is for you. I deviated from the instructions and built the superstructure first. The casting of the parts are very clean with do flashing and the fit of parts is superb.

this is one beautiful model it was screaming for motors so i put 4 motors in it works great and runs great . it was kind of hard putting the the to hull parts together without the line showing ,so i used bondo and sanded it down then painted it , looks great , im thinking about getting another one for display only , i would recommend using the parts that comes with it instead of the MK1 design up

This Model is HUGE!!!! if you like doing big models this is for you. Take your time with this baby! I would suggest getting the full detail up grade set for this it will be well worth the money.

You need a place to put it. The hull is really not accurate to size, but nobody has to know but you.

  5. Rich D

Very good kit. High accuracy and thickness of the parts

  6. Scott W

This is an outstanding kit and does justice to the real ship. The instructions were straightforward and the parts fit together nearly perfectly.

The completed product is HUGE. Nearly 4½ feet long so much space is required for storage. I highly recommend this one.

Finally finished! If you get this kit, expect to spend hundreds of hours on it. If you are not familiar with photo etched parts, read up a little before you start. You will need a lighted magnifier. As with all these kits the instructions are pictorial and a little hard to follow in a few places. There are also a couple of minor errors. Overall, it is a magnificent model when finished, with more detail than any smaller scale.

    This thing is huge!
Goes together well, very nicely detailed. The included photo etched sheets are really good. I added the Pontos wood deck, which included additional metal parts for the bow. More would have been overkill for me personally. Have a plan for where you’ll display it though, it’s really huge. Oh, and did I mention that it’s huge?

This is a good model of the Iowa in a scale that does justice to the size of Battleships. Wish Trumpeter made carries in 1/200 scale. Only drawback is the cost.
