  1. Not firm at all. Extremely soft. Really disappointed because I specifically searched fora firm body pillow.

If you want to DIY your own version of “Wink of Stella”
This almost has the same effect. (I mean the glitter effect)
It all depends on the amount of water you add and the colour you put together.

Buen producto. Cumple lo que promete. Recomendado!

I was trying to give a more painterly texture to my gouache work, and this did the trick. Excellent quality, which is what you would expect from W&N. Behaves as advertised. Kind of pricey for the amount you get, and you can go through a lot if you want strong impasto effects. But if you want to work in this niche this is the stuff you want.

Great for using in my Airbrush helps me avoid drytip. Great stuff.
Works well with Mission Model Paints!

This is a good masking solution for watercolors. Can be applied as a very thin layers and easy to remove once it has dried.

I read a lot of reviews & watched a lot of videos about this product & despite the overall consensus that it doesn’t work very well, I tried it out anyway. I’ve got some notes.

Just FYI, I tried this with Talens Art Creation watercolors (not the highest quality, I know) so the results might have been different if I used nicer paints.

    • When I used as directed & mixed this in with my watercolors, that’s when I got the least amount of visible granulation.

    • The method I use (pictured) is to place the paint down onto the paper & wait until it gets damp, then I take a pipette & place a drop or two wherever I want there to be texture. If the paint is still super watery, this method will not work because it dilutes the solution so much so that the granulation is barely noticeable.

    • My method most often achieves a cauliflower/bloom effect, which I’m a fan of, though I understand that not everybody is a fan of that kind of texture.

    • I also tried this with Himi jelly gouache paints & ink from Posca acrylic markers. After watering these mediums down a little & mixing it in directly with them, they do look a bit sandy/grainy.

    • This probably goes without saying but if you already have paints that granulate, this solution elevates them to a whole other level & I love that.

Overall, I’m giving this 3.5 to 4-ish stars because I really like the effect that my paints get when I drop the granulation medium on top of damp paint. It probably would have gotten 1 star if I kept using it as directed because I felt as though the granulation was hardly noticeable that way.
I have watercolors that naturally granulate on their own & was hoping that this product would yield a similar appearance to those if used on regular watercolors. Unfortunately, that’s not the case, but I’m not mad at it. It’s okay, though I probably won’t be purchasing again. It’s a little expensive for what it does. Fun to experiment with though.

I thought I might drop a note in here on how to use this stuff. In a college watercolor course, I was told to dip your brush in dish soap first, just to coat the bristles, then use the masking fluid. It saves your brushes. Cleans up quickly. Try it.

So when I got this product, there was like a canary yellow on one of the sides and in the middle something dark grey? I think it is the separation of the products (like oils and their ingredients).

I haven’t opened it yet since I’m not 100% sure what is going on with the colors..and I don’t want to stain my artwork. I might have gotten a bad one from the batch but weirdly this never happened to me before since I’ve used their Art masking fluid in the past.

Have not used this product very much. Still on the learning curve

  10. Christine R.

Made my project so much easier! Really works and will continue to purchase this product.

  11. David Fields

This stuff can get expensive so I was surprised to find it less expensive and at the same high quality than at the art stores. The only negative is that this stuff is temperature sensitive so if it left on the porch when it is hot, it will solidify and get gummy while still in the bottle.

  12. Not firm at all. Extremely soft. Really disappointed because I specifically searched fora firm body pillow.

When you mix it with non-granulating watercolor instead of water you expect some serious granulation. This was not my experience. Dropping it by pipette into a wet wash does cause granulating runs but that may not be what you want.

  13. Javier Andres Restrepo

It is my first masking fluid, so I can’t compare. Fluid dried around the top edge which broke the seal and then spilled when the capped bottle fell over. It has a yellow tint so it was easy to see on the paper. I did not leave it on the paper overly long and it was pretty easy to remove. I was not using 100% cotton paper.
