Fun to build
Very challenging
Tammy Castleman –
Only issue would be the ladder elevation parts, didn’t work, ladder base wouldn’t extend, otherwise very detailed and fun to build.
Ken Mellish –
I have done a few of these builds now so i wanted to challenge myself and this one was certainly a challenge what i have learned is to take your time there is plenty of spares so they obviously knew you would need them just brilliant as i say again best build so far
MeteorMagnet –
The spare parts supply was more then ample. Only needed to use two. Take your time and follow the instructions closely. Don’t get ahead of yourself.
Will use it as a gift to one of my grandchildren.

Used to love building Legos with our son. Now that he is grown and flew the nest Dad and I saw this and had a great time putting it together. As a firefighter we thought it was well thought out and lots of detail. Love it!

The assembly was time consuming (which is good) with clear instructions. The mechanical aspect functioned as advertised and is sturdy. I’m always glad for the extra parts because this model needed them from time to time. It was a fun model to assemble and I look forward to future purchases from this company.

I didn’t enjoy this build. The parts were really difficult to remove from the parts sheets. New instruction manual sucks. I like the old manuals the give you a list of all the pieces you will need in the next step. This book makes it like a treasure hunt that’s not really treasure like. I waxed everything as directed but the out riggers still don’t operate. I wouldn’t recommend this one.

This model has a lot of details. I like the metal spring for the movement. Woodtrick did a good job on the design.

When building the mechanical driving spring assembly, the metal spring kept on rebounding and hit on the wooden parts of the assembly. Consequently, the part numbered 46 on board number 2 chipped twice by the metal spring. I tried to get a replacement part but was refused by the seller. I had to glue the chipped parts back together repeatedly before I can finish the project. It was impossible to assemble the spring mechanism. I ended up finishing the model without assembling the metal spring. Perhaps, a version that doesn’t come with a mechanical driving spring may be a better choice for the customer.
On the plus side, the model is very detailed and realistic making it fun to arrange it in various configuration — raised ladder, open doors and compartments, and displaying all the equipment that it carries — fire hydrant, wheel chokes, safety cones etc.

My only complaints: not enough ink used in the manual, resulting in poor detail definition in spots; the ladder elevation retention mechanism is poor.
Aside from that, this model is amazing! EVERYTHING worked perfectly on the first pass. The outriggers work smoothly and the engine runs smoothly on demand. Parts are generally difficult to remove from sheets, since the material used is about 4mm thick. This can be resolved by using a flexible pad beneath the sheets and sharply tapping the parts out. Assembly fit is very tight, but everything is wonderfully desigened, engineered, and detailed. Be careful with the engine assembly … there is a cam used to engage the motor, the major lobe must be oriented correctly and it is advisable to heavily lube it and work it in before final assembly.
When finished this thing is awesome! The very functional outriggers will support the ladder at full extension and 90 degree deflection.
WISH LIST:
Gear shift to motorize ladder extension.
Better detail views of “difficult” sub-assemblies.
Sharper definition of extension lines in illustrations.
A more functional ladder elevation mechanism.
Best of luck as you wander through multiple parts sheets for many sub-assemblies!

I love everything about this, the mechanism for clicking it into drive does jam when trying to take it out of drive. There’s a piece that makes it click into place, however, the click seems to be too much stress. After modifying the piece that makes it click, it works perfectly and I have no other issues.
I am an EMT who has been dealing with ptsd, and I love these wooden models, and building this fantastic firetruck gives me hope to one day see an ambulance of this caliber!
