This was my first model and I learned a lot from it. First – scale. This is a small model (1/72 scale) that will require tweezers for some parts. Probably not for small kids. Wing span is about 7 inches, and length is about 6 1/2 inches. Second – get proper glue. I started with super glue and it made a mess of the model. I bought Tamiya extra thin cement and it was a game changer. Takes longer to set, easier to apply, doesnt stick your fingers together… Just get some, trust me. Third – paint. I started with brushing on cheap acrylic craft paint and it works but an airbrush/spray paint is definitely the way to go. Something to consider if you want to display the model or post pictures online. Last – decals. There is a way to apply decals. They arent stickers like I originally thought. You soak them in water, wet the model, slide them off onto the model… its simple to do, just different than I thought. I spent time trying to peel the “stickers” off the paper before realizing I was doing it wrong. Watch a youtube video.
Overall, I loved this model. Great detail, easy to assemble, 2 decal paint scheme options. Its an awesome activity to zone out to while still feeling productive. Similar to doing a puzzle. I highly recommend it and have already ordered another.

The kit arrived in great condition and on time. Haven’t started assembly yet other projects in the pipeline before I can get to this. However, after checking the contents and perusing the directions it looks like a fairly straight forward project. As to skill level and age that all depends on your audience (gift or self). For the very first time build may be a bit of a challenge but doable. For more experienced modelers no problem. Glue and paints sold separately. Decals are included in the kit. (If you’re not familiar with the 1:72 scale the fuselage with cowling will be about 7 inches nose to tail.}

I enjoyed putting this model together

I liked this plane a lot. I built this with my 7-year-old son and I think it was the perfect balance of challenge and not too difficult. I liked the details on the decals. The only reason why this is not a five-star review is that there was a piece missing: the cockpit canopy.

Highly recommend excellent model

I have assembled many plastic aircraft models and found this one to be extremely well molded. No parts were missing and none was warped. Fit was excellent. No filler was required to make this model look well finished. Painting was accomplished without any difficulty. Two options for props and belly tanks were supplied. Two well detailed painting schemes were provided along with decals for each. A great kit for oneself or as a gift.

Latest kit completed – Academy 1/72 P-47D Razorback – markings of 317th FS/325th FG – Italy 1944 – construction and painting went ok – one thing I don’t like about Academy at this scale is a lack of locator pins or attachment points – landing gear is fragile – worst part is the decals – they are awful – it was a fight with every. single. one. I should have heeded the warnings in the reviews. After a 10 minute struggle with one of the rudder checkerboards it ended in a crumpled mess – P-47 is such a cool aircraft, though – I’ll have to try another kit in the future
