I’ve bought this model from a local hobby store 7’ish years ago and have sat on it since then. Recently started building it yesterday and there are a few huge problems: 1) the fuselage does not connect well at all, even when using glue and rubber bands, 2) the instructions are 2 pages long and should be disregarded due to how poorly described the illustrations are (will have better success without using the instructions, 3) one of the waist gunners isn’t available since it’s a solid piece of plastic on one side, 4) wings and elevators do not sit flush when trying to glue into place and will eventually droop down a bit or completely fall off before even fully drying, 5) wings have tabs that do not fit into the slots on the fuselage and had to be cut off to make it work, and 6) save the money and just don’t buy this. Buy either Revell or Tamiya if you want a B-17 model kit

Many years ago I had an old Airfix 1/72 B-17 that gave me much joy to build. Last year, I ordered an Academy model from Korea but due to the pandemic it was either lost in the mail or is still in transit. This model arrived on time and safely, so I am very thankful to receive it.

Reasonable quality though compared to Airfix and Tamiya falls short . Model came out ok but had to manipulate parts from other kits to finish off . Instructions didn’t cover extra / lacking parts .

  4. Corey P. Riddle

Decals are all way too big. Parts snap in half when trimming off tree. Vague instructions. No detail what so ever. Design of construction is horrible.

This model is a rip. I paid 40 bucks for this POS and didn’t use half the parts. I’m sure it was cast to be able to use the parts in other models or versions of this model. I paid too much for half the model I never used. This model quality ranks as a 1or 2 on a 1-10 scale. This is my first and last Academy model!

    My partner loves it

  7. Michael R.

Terrible waste of money. Poorly designed. Most of the parts do not match up. The fuselage will not join properly. The turrets also cause a problem. The instructions are almost useless. Assembly of some parts are completely omitted. Do not buy!

  8. Daniel&Margaret

    Nothing to dislike

  9. Nice kit.

Enjoyed building this model kit and would do it again in a heartbeat!

some difficulty with setting the decals, once applied let dry but started to peel off.

Does not say how many pieces it has. Revell has 235 pieces, $64. I have prime I understand the taxes, but I thought being a prime member, I wouldn’t need to pay 4 shipping
