When I first ran it, it was stopping and stalling every couple inches. I had to repair a wire in the tender and now that problem is solved. Then the next problem arose, the rear trailing truck wheel would not turn. Found that there was excess plastic bound up and not allowing the wheel to turn. After I fixed that the next issue arose and that was constant detailing around 22 inch radius curves. Best advice, save your money and look elsewhere. Bachmann and Amazon quality control needs to improve ASAP.

It will not run across a turnout
    Poor design

Received the loco on time as tracked. Package arrived in pretty sad condition. The box looks like it has been around the world. Twice. Poorly taped, not even sealed all the way around the edges. The loco was thrown in the box at a 45 degree angle to fit, with no packing material at all. Thankfully the manufacturer does a half way decent job in their own packaging and there is no apparent damage to the loco.

Out of the box, on my Christmas tree oval, it does pretty well after some initial lube and break in. I’m using 18″ radius curve EZ track from Backman and while not exactly prototypical in radius (It’s a Christmas tree train, who cares?), it navigates it well enough. It does seem a bit stifled by having to go through the DCC circuitry to run direct DC on the track and requires a bit more voltage input than my old Athearn blue box 3 pole motor to pull at similar speeds.

The lighting is a nice feature. Comes on on low voltage before the motor engages which is probably contributing to the higher voltage needs. It is very white, however, and some yellowing will need to be applied to get a more period correct color. The light on the tender also comes on at all times. I’m not big into steam so I’m not sure if this is correct for the prototype, but I’m going to see if I can disconnect it in the tender.

Details are nice and lettering is crisp. I do wish the DCC wiring harness was a bit less of a mess between the tender and engine. Some bundling of wires will probably help.
