This aircraft has a storied history for its success in WWII. There are many detailed features if you are interested in building this model for display. This adds some difficulty to the build. However, outstanding help that deserves more than a five star review, is available either on the Guillow’s builders’ forum or by email from the willing technical experts at Guillow’s.

Product was shipped and received in only a few days, and was well-packaged and undamaged. Guillows started providing some of its smaller Series of models with laser-cut parts, but this kit was still of the die-cut variety, and the quality has degraded greatly since I first started building these kits in the 1970s. I do not know if the most recently-manufactured kits of this model are laser-cut or not. Perhaps I received an older kit. It appears the cutting dies are getting old or dull, as although the parts were discernable (more-or-less), many small detailed notches and curves were either poorly-defined, or completely invisible, and required extensive sanding and/or hand-cutting by closely following the full-sized parts drawings in the plans. This kit had the vinyl/nylon parts such as the wing spar and firewall instead of the original wood – which I replaced with wood, anyway. The balsa sheets are stamped from rather inconsistent quality; some are “spongy” and rather flexible, while others are very brittle, and split/crack easily. The “upside” of my criticism is that at least I can get some experience in “scratch-building” – sort of. It would be awesome if Guillows included another sheet of recommendations or suggestions for converting this model to electric power. The kit plans, as printed include construction details for U-Control gas/glow, or rubber-powered free flight, or for building an “action model” which is a semi-scale, non-flying model with operating features, like opening/closing canopy and dive flaps. The plans do give suggestions as to the selection of a gas or glow motor, but nothing else, and leaves any design mods for radio control components or electric power up to the builder. As a “kit” evaluation, I say it is “fair to good” but with improvements as I suggested above, I think would become a favorite among the “stick and tissue” crowd, although it is large enough (1/2A, or “park flyer” sized, 31″ wingspan) to be sheeted, if some modifications are made.

I did not like this model, if I had seen the prints before I would not have gotten it.
I have done a number of these military planes and this is the worst.

THIS IS NOT MADE FOR PLAYING. EACH PIECE HAS TO BE CUT OUT BY HAND AND THE WOOD IS EXTREMELY DRY. I SENSE ITS BEEN ON THE SHELF FOR AWHILE. I GUESS IF YOU ARE AWARE OF THIS, YOU WILL BE OK WITH IT.
