The quality of the wood is poor, also not cut through properly and not outlined to se the actual piece. I’ve had other guiltiest kit and the have been great. Very disappointed in this kit

I have painted it as an Air Force Thinderbird and it turned out fine. Wish the kit included the necessary decals, though.

Sent it back after finding that balsa was bound with a rubber band and bent all of the sheets. This is not a laser cut model and most of the pieces are poorly stamped out and extremely hard to see the stamped areas. Not really sure why this mod got good reviews, personally I would find a laser cut mod it’s much less frustrating.

When I started this model I figured this would be a nightmare to cover with tissue but
as it turned out it wasn’t that bad with the help of EzeDope. I have read bad reviews
on this product but the truth is you have to learn to work with it,don’t over thin &
apply more than one coat,it will shrink the tissue nice & tight & gives you a firmer
surface so you don’t wind up with a wrinkled mess when painted,….I give all my
models 4 coats of EzeDope after I water shrink the tissue 2 or 3 times & get great
results! Model was fun to build & turned out great,is about 19″ long when complete .

I purchased this to scan into a computer and increase the size to make a larger model airplane that actually flies. As a desk model, it is very detailed. I recommend you keep the plans nice by using food wrap and you can build multiple models. The plastic parts could be a little easier to mount but that is not a big problem. I also recommend taking time to make a detailed cockpit and better augmenters for the engine.

the intake assembly was poor fitting (possibly the “fitter”) the paper finishing was near impossible and really shows on the finished model.

Kit comes with everything to build the airframe of your future fighter hangar. You get to decide which variant to cover and paint this bird in. Enjoy the results after a few weeks of waiting for glue to dry.

Having fun putting it together & it’s HUGE! Its about 18 inches long & the wingspan is about about a foot. It’s a 1:40 scale which means its about 40 times smaller than the real thing. This is one of the bigger model aircraft I built & my first balsa wood kit.
The directions are a bit unclear at explaining things on some steps but I got the gist of it for the most part & its starting to come together nicely. This is definitely not a kit for beginners. It is a complicated one & blasa wood is a bit harder to work with than plastic as it’s more delicate & the construction is more intricate than plastic models. Will be buying another Gillow’s balsa wood kit. Thinking of getting their F-14 or F-16 for my next build.

Bought for a gift. Looks good painted or unpainted.
