Being a long-time Hasegawa, Tamiya and Revell Germany fan, this was my first Hobby Boss model kit, so I had my reservations. However, upon opening the box and going through the parts, I quickly realized I’d found another favorite. Parts hanging from the sprues were clean, with very little excess plastic to trim away or sand off before assembly. The fit of each part was amazingly accurate. I rated this kit as a 4-Star because of a lack of detail in the instructions as to parts placement – for cockpit and landing gear parts, in particular. Also noticed some errors in the decal sheet. Lastly, there are several weapons configurations for this model (11 to be exact!); but, the painting details for some of the bombs and missiles are missing, and require a little internet searching, if you prefer a higher degree of accuracy. The full color decal and painting insert helps, but still does not include enough detail. For example, on the box cover, the outside half of the wing tanks appear as a copper-gold color, but the instructions do not give you this paint color name. My choice was to simply leave the tanks as all silver, and apply the large black decal to the outside edge as shown on the box – which I still think looks very cool! I also selected the French military markings, as I don’t yet have a French jet in my collection, and enjoy the variety.
I prefer 1/32 scale aircraft because of the usually higher level of detail – and a higher number of parts. The Hobby Boss F-84 Thunderjet has been one of my favorites in a long line of scale models I’ve built since I was a young lad. Looking forward to my next Hobby Boss kit!
