Wish I knew about this when I started painting minis bc I absolutely didn’t know that it was a craft to make them look really nice.
This kit gives u everything u need plus it teaches u how to paint the minis correctly via YouTube and detailed instructions.

If ur into TTRPG and use minis these kits are for you. This kit supplies everything u need for a decent price.

I’m just getting in to painting minis and quickly found out that it’s a very expensive hobby. Looking at kits just to get started and came across this. Exceedingly pleased with all you get in this kit. 19 bottles of paint/wash, 5 minis, 2 paint brushes, and a guide to help you on your way. Was worried about the quality of the paint but that was quickly put at ease as soon as I started. Plus, I soon noticed the army painter logo in the corner (expensive, quality company). If you’re dipping your toes in to painting, this is the kit to get!

Brushes are very good for detail work, minimal hair shedding. The washes for skin tone and shadow are amazing. I bought lotto experiment on custom 1:12, 1:10 scale figures I make. Paint isn’t as durable as hoped like Testors model masters acrylics, but the washes and brushes are great!

I suppose I’ll start off with why I knocked off a star.
The “instructions” are really more of just a glorified sales brochure. There are some tips strewn about, and they do link to youtube video guides, but primarily the documentation exists to sell other products to you. I bought this and both of the Reaper starter kits all at the same time as my first venture into painting minis and have found the reaper documentation to be significantly more useful as a “how to” and much less “drink more ovaltine” than the Army Painter documentation.
Maybe the intent for this kit was not to act as a beginner set, but including minis with it kind of gives it that vibe.
Now, onto the good (and honestly, I’d have given it 4.5 if Amazon allowed for this).
The included minis are nice, detailed figures that are easy to assemble and snap together solidly without obvious seams. I am honestly liking how they feel in the hand more than the Reaper minis that came with the other starter sets I bought. They all seem to take paint roughly the same, but these feel just a tad higher quality to my entirely inexperienced hand.
The selection of paints is nice. I like that it included a couple of washes.
The brushes seem to be your standard fare synthetic “throw away” brushes, but are sufficient for a beginner and work well enough. Better than the brushes that came with my Reaper kits. I have already picked up a nice set of kolinski sable brushes, but I still fall back on the Army Painter brushes for stuff that might be a bit rough on the nicer brushes, and they have held up nicely.
Overall I am quite satisfied with this set, and would recommend it for others starting out on their painting journey, just keep in mind that you might want to spend some time on mini-painting youtube for some better “how to” than what this comes with.

These are fantastic paints. I keep finding new uses for them in my projects. They are expensive but work great both with a brush and through my airbrush with thinner. I will be buying more.

I am new to the world of painting miniatures and I watched several videos and blogs on how to get started and it’s enough to make your head spin. In he end, I bought this kit that has absolutely EVERYTHING you need to get started and all at a high quality. it also includes instructions and even video tutorials and suggestions on how to paint the figures. With 5 figures, it was enough for me to able to have a family activity with my kids. it was great.
I will say, that you can buy all of these things individually on your own, for A LOT less. But knowing what to buy, and at what quality and how to use them, are two very different things. This is ideal for a newbie who is getting started.
