historically accurate. a very challenging build. my grandfather served aboard this ship so it was an honor for me and my son to build

This is a great model. I haven’t finished it yet when I do I will post photo’s of it. This model is not for beginners. Read the instructions most importantly take your time, small parts can be a real pain in the butt. Use a glue that welds plastic together and use sparingly. I expect it will take about 60 hours paint and finish the model.

As of this review, I am half way through this kit build.
I give it 3 stars mostly because of the lack of clear directions for the photo etched parts.
Also, some of the parts HAVE to be attached with PE and give you no other choice, and these PE parts are extremely thin and fragile, not like some other PE that I have used in other model kits. All the plastic parts go together well with a few fit issues here and there. The positives are that the deck parts fit great, as do the 2 hull halves. There are these braces that glue into the hull which give it a strong feel and help fit it all together nicely. The planes are clear plastic and lack detail. One thing I need to point out is that there is no waterline mark on the hull and you must try and guess as to where it is based on pictures of the ship. I had to set this build aside for awhile because the tiny tiny PE parts where driving me insane. So now I will start work on the Revell 1/48 scale PBY model I have had sitting in my closet for a year. I will get back to the ship after that and finish it up nicely, it’s just these darn PE parts that I have to get a break from once in awhile.
