    This kit builds up into a small model (about seven inches, stem to stern) but has terrific detail, as is usual for Trumpeter’s model ships. To get the best results, the hobbyist needs a well developed skill set, since there are many small parts — and I mean REALLY small — down to around 2mm. The kit comes with a couple small sheets of photo etched brass parts, one for the stand and another for the delicate radar components. The directions are clear when carefully scrutinized, and there is a good color and marking guide for painting. I enjoyed building the Z-30 model, except for the all-too-frequent sessions on all fours, searching the floor for fly-aways. Don’t get this as a gift for a child, because it requires patience and modeling experience, but if you like working in 1/700 scale yourself, I would recommend it.
