Roy Dearnley –

It was jammed into the shipping box which worried me but the recipient is happy with his plane and that’s what matters.

Badly warped fuselage – be warned

Maurizio –
ottima fattura, prezzo competitivo
Jacky De Suza –
A fairly accurate model of the 747-8i. Well designed pieces with good fitment.

Very nice and huge. I was surprise how quick it got to me even though its arrival date was three and a half weeks out.

This kit was well designed with alignment pins and holes for joining parts that need them. The parts fit was pretty good and there was very little flash. I really appreciate the inclusion of a stand for the model. This is extremely rare with modern kits. There was an issue with the stand, though. The thickness of the plastic under the plane was slightly greater than the corresponding slot in the stand, so I had to shave some away to make it fit. Unfortunately, the tab on the stand eventually broke under the stress, so I permanently glued it in – which was fine for me.
The paint scheme was a bit challenging with no templates, which explains the inaccuracies in my work. Personally, I’m not a fan of the plastic windows and would prefer window decals. I use a thick layer of gel mask on the plastic windows, but never get a perfect result. Some peel away cleanly, but many do not. Similarly, a cockpit window decal would look much better than the result from painting the faintly visible framework in the clear plastic. I also would have liked more detailing decals to highlight features on the fuselage.
I’ve never seen a 747 model with outboard main gear that hang at an angle in flight, so I cut mine and repositioned them. The angle isn’t quite step enough, but at least it’s more accurate.
Overall, it’s a nice kit that I’d certainly recommend.
