Airfix’s Quick Build range is a bit like a cross between a traditional Airfix model and a Lego kit. Actually, it’s more Lego than Airfix to be honest and when Lego’s patent ran out recently, Airfix clearly saw an opportunity for a construction kit for younger, budding model builders.
So, this is something that falls somewhere between a real model and a toy. Whereas a “proper” Airfix Messerschmitt 109 will require glue, paint, a fair bit of time and a little skill, the “Quick Build” line is constructed very much along the line of Lego and simply clips together in a few minutes to produce something that looks a little (well, more than a little – I’m being uncharitable) like a Bf109.
You get about 35 parts, some stickers and a nicely visual instruction sheet and a stand.
For those who are interested, the finished plane is about 25cm across the wings, making this model roughly 1/40 scale.
As far as the “lego-ness” is concerned, it’s not quite as high quality as the real branded stuff, and the fit is just a little sloppy in places. Nothing to write to your MP about, but not excellent.
I do rather like this kit. I bought it for a slightly whimsical desk ornament at work and it fits that bill perfectly. I shall certainly buy the
Airfix Quick Build Spitfire
to go alongside this chappy.

Bought this for my nephew for Christmas (he is 7) ans I thought a glue together Airfix model would be too complicated for him. This was great, easy to build but he had to think about it. I would fully recommend these for children of that sort of age who would probably make a huge mess gluing and painting the other versions.

Works fine lasts long time.

This is my second Quickbuild model. I like the realistic look of the model and only a few areas that indicate a snap together model.

Being someone who likes fighter aircraft, was curious about these airfix quick builds so i purchased an F22 Raptor just as a one off, it arrived the following day and i was surprised that i was looking at LEGO pieces of sorts anyway i assembled the parts and was very impressed with result, it even came with a stand so it makes a great desk top decoration. Some may say its just a toy but only if you play with it, gotta be honest i purchased The Typhoon aka The Eurofighter, The Spitfire and above Messerschmitt all very well made and solid, i gone on to pre order the Mustang P51d.
If they could improve anything i’d love to see them bring out the following, F16 Eagle F18 Superhornet F35lightningII MIG29 PAK Sukhoi T50
For kids and Aircraft admirers.

I bought this for my 8-yr-old grandson. He does a lot of legos so this seemed like a good choice to get him into historical model airplanes. It took him a little less than an hour. He didn’t like the instructions probably because they were not “just like lego.” It’s a good kit. My only compliant is that the base stem broke rather easily after I took the picture so a proper display isn’t possible.

Fast delivery, sturdy little toy or display…A bit of carefully placed superglue will go a ,long way, too
Bruce Roeder –
super easy to build

Since this wasn’t LEGO I expected some off brand craft but everything was easy and went together fine. GREAT VALUE. Sleek and quite scale. I will be buying more from airfix.

The model is 20 cm (l) X 30 cm wingspan. Quite small than expected. Packing case damaged in transit.

I absolutely love the idea of the quick build philosophy and it is ideal to young modelers to get into the game. Airfix’s Quickbuild models are of a very high standard and the blocks and parts all fit lovely together to make a seamless representation of an old classics or a new modern age plane. Unfortunately with this kit there were two parts that were the same and subsequently one missing part, which really spoiled the model as the missing part is located right behind the windscreen and can be easily spotted. It is the only reason stopping me from giving the kit 5 stars.

Nice looking model when completed,I live in small residence now and don’t have room to assemble, paint, etc models anymore. This lets you still have some fun making and collecting models.Wish they offered larger variety of WW2 models.

Good for what it is, a simple snap together model. I was surprised that it looks relatively good after being built. Don’t expect a highly detailed realistic model. This is for young children. My 6 year old and I built it together and be seemed to enjoy it .
The only negative is that the drop fuel tank won’t stay on if you mount the plane on the stand. The stand and fuel tank get in the way of each other.
