I really enjoyed assembling this model of the USS Missouri, & would have given it a 5 star rating; but had difficulty with several pieces on the super structure panels breaking at the bend points after only two or three adjustments to get them to fit, & ended up having to CA glue them in position. Also, this kit is loaded with extremely tiny pieces (between 3/16″ & 1/8″ in size). I definitely had to use my magnifying glasses to assemble this model, as well as, using most of my specialized modeling tools. I certainly would not recommend this model to a beginner in the “metal earth” model world; but recommend it someone with more experience. It is a beautiful model when complete.

I’ve built about 20 Metal Earth kits, and this is by far the most challenging, biggest, with most pieces of all the kits I’ve built. But, holy crap is it worth it. Its a foot long, about twice the size of the next largest kit I’ve built. Its 3 sheets, each about 4×8 inches, compared to most of these being 2 sheets of 4×4 inches each. Take your time and pay attention to the instructions (I made a few mistakes). Even with my experience, it probably took 8 hours to build. (but, I tend to be careful to file all the edges where it was attached to the “sprue”, which takes extra time)

I built this while in the hospital (planned stay) and the doctors and nurses were keeping a close watch on my progress, and were amazed at how it came out. One nurse even brought in a fellow nurse (who wasn’t treating me) to show off the completed model. Its that impressive.

If you’re considering buying this, and you’ve built other metal earth kits, stop contemplating and buy it.

This was my first metal earth. Overall I had fun and I strongly recommend it. Two minor complaints: 1. Some of the pieces too fragile. When they made a groove for bending, wish they didn’t carve it deep so that small pieces don’t break off easily. 2. Even with right tools, It took a bit of time to know how to twist or bend taps efficiently. Wish they had separate and clear tips or guide for this.

I bought this as a gift for my husband. He’s enjoying assembling it. The level of detail is insane! Definitely a project for someone with quite a lot of patience, good eyesight, and the right tools. Not appropriate for children or (IMO) for someone who hasn’t done several miniature metal models like this in the past.
Little pliers and metal snips are musts, and you have to pay close attention to the directions. However, the kit does include extra copies of some of the tiniest elements that might be lost if you accidentally drop them, and the gun barrels are provided as tiny pipes so you don’t have to bend them into shape. That’s very helpful. All in all, a well-designed and rewarding project.

Tool Kit for Metal Earth 3D Metal Models

(you DID buy the tools, right?!) and get your comfort blanky ready, because this one’s a doozy. Two days, if you take your time. One day, if you tear through it, skipping all meals and downing energy drinks like a maniac. Instructions are fairly clear and are easy enough to follow. Really, take your time and follow the instructions and you can work through this. This model is not hard, but the length of time it takes can certainly be disenchanting. I took my time and spent two evenings carefully clipping pieces out, twisting and crimping the little gun emplacements, and dropping the tiniest pieces ever off my desk, helplessly watching them fall into the infinite wasteland that is my carpet. Then spending 20 minutes finding everything EXCEPT the stupid piece that I dropped! I found a pen I lost a year ago before I found that piece! Arrrrggghh!!!!

But really, buy this, it’s amazing. The details on this model are incredible. The Missouri now dominates my shelf of completed Fascinations models. It’s huge compared to the normal sized ones. Most of these models are around 3-4 inches long, this one is 12. Twelve. A foot. Getting to the end of this project felt like coming to the end of a great journey… I felt like Frodo getting picked up by eagles. I put the completed model down on the shelf, sat down, finished my uncle’s novel, then got on a ship with some elves, never to be seen again.

I really enjoyed this model, but you need the right tools and a hobby magnifier. I will say again, GET A HOBBY MAGNIFIER.

you will also spend a lot of time here. It’s worth it, but it’s not quick.

  7. MJB

Insanely easy, I did this in 2 hours and I’m my sleep

In the first 30 minutes I gave up….
