Still recreating history. Not quite the quality I think, (of yesteryear) but I may be wrong about that. The model will build out no problem, just as good as you are capable of making it. You can make a great model with this kit. The kit is very complete with suggestions of things you can add. I had to study the plans and information all over again. If you are new to this, do this carefully and completely. This model is not a throw it together thing but very similar to building the real thing as much as possible I think. The basic razor knife kit a couple of tubes of Testors glue needed, some wax paper, I got as poster board at Walmart for 1,47 to tape to me work table, a box of T pins I really like these. Suitable model dope some spray laquer ( I recommend ) mentioned in plans also I believe. I am going to google up pics and try to find a authentic pic of a plane from a actual combat squadron so I can duplicate the paint job exactly. requires some patience but is not overly difficult this is a fun project.

Whist this is an excellent kit. the scale details leave a little to be desired—the vickers MG is omitted and the slope downwards from the cockpit is not correct; also the outer wing struts connect into the aileron position. currently I’m working on electric RC details.

I wanted to give the Guillows British SE 5A Laser Cut Model Kit to a friend for Christmas. The kit normally sells for $50 or more online or at local hobby shops (I did a lot of checking). When I came across the kit being sold on Amazon by Yagoozon for $29.88 — a 40% discount — I must admit I was somewhat skeptical. I ordered the kit late night on December 20 with standard shipping. It arrived on December 24 in a shipping box with the kit well-protected by those little air bags. It was unopened and in pristine condition in the original factory packaging. I was extremely pleased and very impressed.

The Guillows SE 5A is a terrific kit which speaks for itself. There are several excellent videos on YouTube which show rubber, electric, and static versions of the completed model. Frankly, these models are just fun to build.

Based on my experience, I would not hesitate to place another order for an item sold by Yagoozon thru Amazon. The experience exceeded my best expectations.

I had not built a balsa model in 25 years and then decided to get it for my son and I do build together. I told him the first one we would just build for the model and not for flying purposes. Wow, is the laser cut pieces such an improvement over the old die cut parts. If you never put together a balsa model with die cut parts, you were not missing anything. no matter which model you want to buy, make sure it is laser cut. All the pieces were there and we had a great time putting it together. Most kids, (he is 11) are impatient and want to do it all in a day. I think he learned some great lessons by us taking about three weeks total to complete the model. One trick I learned with a biplane – the instructions say to use thread for the wires that run between the wings and the fuselage, but I found some very fine piano wire in hobby lobby that worked much better and it looks great. We had so much fun, we may try to build one to fly next time.

As an experienced model maker I found this a very satisfying kit to complete. looking forward to my next purchase.

These balsa wood pieces just pop right out…. like a plastic model….

I have only built 2 balsa wood plane models before, and that was years ago….
In those early models I recall that the pieces were sometimes poorly shaped and required cutting, filing, trimming, drilling, and bending (soak in water and bend over time until a final custom shape is formed).
So far, just out-of-the box everything looks wonderful.
    Completed the kit, no problems.

This is a fantastic kit to build no matter your skill level. Keep in mind that you need modeling dope for the paper skin and cut the viscosity in half if not more to prevent bubbling. It takes paint great but adds weight if you are wanting to fly. Use real wood glue and not crazy glue for straight. Be patient while building this kit and you will be rewarded with a rememerable example of history and engineering.

A very nice kit by Guillows. Will need some extra time with this, as i am converting it to 4ch. Adding a 1700kv motor, 25 amp esc, 7.5 x 4 prop (for now) 4 – 9gr servos, linkage, and a steerable tail wheel. Also adding extra support to motor mount, wing area, and fus. Will also be covering it with 1mm depron foam. Set your wing rise at 13/16, it looks like it will be just fine. This is a very nice static model, but like the old days i want to fly . If you are new to these type of kits, you will want to study the plans fully, and if you can grab a experienced model builder to help you, you will not be disappointed. I hope to soon post pics and as the weather gets better post some flying shots on RC groups. Everyone enjoy their Guillows SE 5A

The basic wood parts are well cut and marked. The paper isn’t as hard to put on as I thought. However, a lot of parts needed to complete the model are not furnished such as exhaust pipes, machine gun rack, cockpit trim and interior. Also the white plastic parts (machine gun, pilot, front cowling) are useless or practically so. The cowling didn’t fit. I had to make my own. The white plastic does not hold glue or paint. The instructions are also vague as to when to put on paper as opposed to when to install exhaust manifold, undercarriage, etc. Be prepared to do a lot of problem solving. This is no cut and paste project.
