An excellent model airplane kit, goes together nicely as the balsa parts are lazer cut, would highly recommend this to anyone interested in building balsa models, its rubber band powered in the box, but is large enough to convert to micro electric remote control which I’m in the process of doing. In summing up its a well made kit, with a comprehensive parts list that can be customised to an extent.

CHUCKLE “laser” cut – yup sure is – the balsa is blackend from were the laser was used to cut the wood – you still need a good Xacto knife to free the majour parts from the stingers anyway – also – my only complaint is – this kit comes with a 2 bladed prop – which isn’t even close to scale for the reset of the kit – why not include the proper 3 blade that P40’s actually used ? – maybe a extra penny in plastic ? – charge a extra $1 for the kit – do have to give credit where credit is due – the instructions are fairly decent when it comes to laying out the finishing touches – ie) how to build out the gun mounts on the wings – or how to trim out the landing gear – for the gear & gun’s – I splurged & ordered up the Innhom Heat Shrink Tubing Black 532pcs kit – great array of sizes to build out the guns & trim out the landing gear – also purchased – Modelling the P-40: Hawk 81, Tomahawk, Warhawk and Kittyhawk (Osprey Modelling) book – I’m building out this kit as model – not as a flyer – since I couldn’t find a decent sized version which I could hang over my desk @ work – this kit’s a decent size & perfect for my purpose – I also utilized Hobby Horizons for the correct scale wheels / landing gear & prop + pilot – so – ya – went WAY overboard on this kit – but the end product should be worth the effort – still in the build stages …

This review is not on the kit its self, it is on the distributor. This distributor decided it would be a great idea to ship a fragile balsa wood airplane via UPS and did not put it in a box to protect the plane during transit. The plane arrived at my doorstep with one side ripped open, and the plastic wrap taped back on. The boxes that these planes come in are not strong enough to survive shipping by themselves.The box is about the thickness of a cereal box wrapped in plastic wrap. Amazingly the plane did not get destroyed in transit and most the plane arrived in usable condition but missing a couple pieces.
As for the plane, i give it 5 stars. I have built several Guillow’s airplane kits and this is the first that i have built that is laser cut. This is a nice touch and i like it way better than the old die cut (read die crushed) kits from the past. looking forward to building this with my son.

Bought this for my 84-year old dad who has gotten back into making models in the past year or so. He started with a couple of really simple (and inexpensive ones) and he’s really pleased with the quality of this one in comparison. I’ll never buy him another die-cut.

I just got this kit yesterday and will start on it asap. I used to do these and the smaller ones when I was a kid and loved it even though the wood quality back then was so so. This kit is actually very very nice. The laser cut wood is top notch, not too heavy not too light. The laser cutting and the parts look perfect. Cant wait to make this.
These laser cut kits are on a different level from the die cut or die crushed ones of before.

This is one of the best Guillows. The laser cut is near perfection, making assembly easy and accurate. I am considering converting it to electric for RC.
