The bulb puts out a directional, spot patterned light. It is NOT omnidirectional. So, if you stick it to the floor of a model building, it does illuminate the interior dimly but it directs a round spot of light toward the roof of the model. Also, the color of the light is a most unpleasant bright white color that looks more like the LED light you may find in your refrigerator rather than the softer, more warm light appropriate for a train model.
