More molded-in detail that usual. Instructions fairly good. My first experience with photo-etched parts. Not many, and plastic ones can be substituted. Suggest reading online instructions and watching videos of working with PE parts first if you are not already familiar. Got the Trumpeter upgrade with some brass parts to use. The plastic flash bags molded onto the brass main gun barrels makes a very nice touch. Impressive kit.

in the world of 1/350 scale warships tamiya is known as the benchmark, the “go to” because of their attention to detail and quality in manufacturing. this trumpeter model and trumpeter in general seeks to knock tamiya off their throne. the detail and quality of product is great, with one added bonus. they add photo etched parts! now this is a first i have seen this. tamiya is starting to introduce photo etched with its newer models but the older big six ships dont have it added. so buy this model with confidence, you wont be sorry. happy modeling!!
oh the kit comes with both waterline and full hull options.

HMS Hood in 1/350 was something I looked forward to for a long time and this kit did not disappoint me at all. Parts fit together without much fuss, and the assembled kit looks just as beautiful as the Mighty Hood herself. Trumpeter has really become the king of these large scale plastic kits.

OK..it is my first model kit in since 1979. Had to get this though, and I must say it’s pretty darn cool. It great looking out of the box, but I have gotten the upgraded turrets and a photo etch ( fiddly but worth it!) detail kit too. For those that are serious about their Hood, a visit to the HMS Hood association website has all the information one needs to make all the changes to the kit for historical accuracy. If that website doesn’t get you into this kit, you might as well find another hobby. The kit is large, well thought out by Trumpeter as for the build itself, detailed, and with just nominal skill, should produce a model that one would be very proud of. If you go the extra mile and get the upgrades and use the advice from the website, one could have a museum piece. A very beautiful model that once properly built, will be a tribute not only to the ship itself, but also those that served, and perished on her.
