   This is a fairly easy-to-build model. It’s quite accurate, comparing it to photos of the real helicopter used extensively in the Vietnam War and elsewhere.

   The boom was used to refuel the helicopter while in flight (it would come up from behind a fuel plane in flight and stick the boom into the fuel plane’s hose that would trail behind).

   The moving parts include the three sets of wheels, the large rotors on top, and the small rotors on the tail, and a door flap on the rear of the fuselage that opens. It doesn’t have doors on the sides, which is unfortunate, nor does it carry any arms. This is basically, then, a model that would represent a helicopter used for rescue operations, and not for direct combat.

   The tail rotor blades are extremely delicate – be careful to not break them off by mishandling. Also – don’t neglect to put the axle for the tail rotor inside before assembling the two halves of the fuselage (the directions that show this step are easy to overlook).

   THE JOLLY GREEN GIANT IS WHITE! I OPENED THE PACKAGE AND WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THAT ALL OF THE PARTS IN THE KIT ARE WHITE. ALL PICTURES ON THE BOX INDICATE THAT THE MODEL IS GREEN. I SUPPOSE THAT THIS ITEM WILL BE ALL RIGHT WITH THOSE WHO REGULARLY PAINT THEIR MODELS, BUT A WHITE JOLLY GREEN GIANT FOR THE REST OF US! C’MON MAN!

   I bought this kit to convert it into a different model helicopter. I bought it even though the box art work showed the rotors turning in the wrong direction. So I wasn’t expecting too much in the way of accuracy in detail.
   Indeed I’m surprised that they didn’t make a greater effort to get the basic shape right. Having said that, the parts fit well and when it’s built up, it looks like what it’s supposed to be, except to folks that really know it.
